Home About DONATE
The History of the North Kohala Affordable Housing Group:
Working to implement the 2008 Community Development Plan
- A housing survey was conducted as part of 2008 CDP process. We are currently updating that survey to quantify todayʻs needs.
- In 2008, 30% of respondents said they were in need of affordable housing; 44% said a family member was.
- Analysis of population data estimated need for 600-700 affordable units (purchase and rental). Affordable was defined as under $250,000.
OBJECTIVES PER NKCDP (p 58-59):
- To meet the Kohala Communityʻs needs for affordable sale and rental housing over a 10 year period
- To develop a program that will make some of the existing housing stock affordable to young families and single adults
- To integrate new affordable housing into the existing fabric of the community
- To develop a strong, community-based organization that can work towards achieving these goals and objectives
